Transformation Design Principles

In this course the Transformational Travel Council will seek to equip you with knowledge, tools, and skills to guide your travelers on a journey to deeper meaning through their travel experiences. You'll learn practical tools and methods for expanding and deepening traveler connection, meaning, and purpose. We believe this leads to increased engagement, referrals, and loyalty for your business. It also leads to a scaled positive impact for people, place, and planet. Overall you will gain the practical skills needed to craft truly transformational experiences of all kinds. In the end, what you do with this knowledge will be unique to your work, your soul, and your passions. You are the purveyor of a new way of traveling and we hope to support you in continuing that work.

Transformation Design Principles In Travel Experiences

The Transformational Travel Council defines Transformational Travel as “intentionally traveling to stretch, learn and grow into new ways of being and engaging with the world.”

Transformational travel is any travel experience that empowers people to make meaningful, lasting changes in their life and positive impact in the world around them. Ultimately, it’s a new philosophy on travel that connects travellers to their truest self and to others, cultivating a sense of purpose and belonging. It is often identified as a missing link in today’s social purpose and sustainability movements. It is about regeneration of self, planet, and people.

Travel is not a promise. It is an opportunity to gain perspective, to broaden, to expand. It is a chance to discover our courage, discover moments of clarity, and see both inwardly and outwardly what we cannot see from home. It is a chance to meaningfully connect to others, and to ourselves. It’s an opportunity to go beyond and engage something far bigger than ourselves.

But the greatest value lies still ahead. If we are to contribute to travel being a force for good in this world, it is not enough to simply return. The greatest opportunity travel holds is to use its gifts to create positive change in our lives, in our communities, and in the world.

A lifetime of seeking in nature and around the world has taught Tanner one important thing: our lives are not ours alone and there is no end to what we can learn. As the co-owner, along with his wife Kolena, of Travel Life Adventures he seeks to create space where personal transformations can take place for travelers, and to work with and support communities in creating sustainable and empowering tourism programs and infrastructure. It is time for travel to be an agent of positive change instead of a tool of exploitation.

I have been working in travel and tourism for almost 10 years in varying roles and capacities. I have been a travel designer, guide, and consultant. Currently I am the Director of Product Innovation and Education Transformational Travel Council where I am responsible for creation, implementation, and maintenance of all our products and educational programs at the TTC.
