The Adventure Tourism Development Index (ATDI) is a global ranking from the Adventure Travel Trade Association and George Washington University International Institute of Tourism Studies (GW IITS) that assesses adventure tourism competitiveness of countries around the globe.
The ATDI ranks countries in 9 categories:
The ATDI scorecard is the only country-level ranking index that assesses destinations’ competitiveness and potential for adventure tourism in 186 countries. It combines comprehensive, objective data from a diverse set of reputable global databases with expert insights collected through surveys conducted with a panel of industry specialists.
For 2024, the ATDI underwent a comprehensive update, reflecting the industry’s evolving landscape since its launch in 2008. We restructured and renamed the three main factors that form the core areas of analysis, streamlined the framework by reducing the number of pillars from ten to nine, and expanded the indicators used to measure these pillars from 19 to 23, with 17 entirely new indicators introduced to address emerging industry trends.
