Description

For over 19 years, the ATTA has surveyed its growing database of tour operators and produced an annual Adventure Travel Trends & Insights: State of the Adventure Travel Industry (formerly known as Snapshot) report. Adventure travel tour operators are invited to share information about their business operations as well as trends they are experiencing with respect to traveler demographics, destinations, and activities.

To gather data for this report, a survey was conducted from late-January through mid-March 2026, asking tour operator respondents about their 2025 business operations and sales, 2026 booking expectations, travel trends, and consumer motivations.

Some key findings in the 2026 report include:

  • Trip fill rates averaged 64%, holding steady in line with the past several years and signaling stable demand across the sector
  • Nearly 60% of operators reported revenue growth in 2025, though most gains were under 25%, reflecting a shift toward steady, incremental growth
  • The median price of operators’ most popular itinerary was $2,250 for 7 nights, with approximately 75% of trip spend remaining in the local economy
  • Travelers continue to prioritize new experiences, cultural connection, and off-the-beaten-path exploration, with growing interest in sustainability, wellness, and purpose-driven travel
  • Top trending destinations included Northeast Asia and Scandinavia
  • Leading activities included hiking, culinary experiences, e-bike cycling, cultural experiences, and wellness-focused travel
  • The median number of travelers per operator declined to 800, reflecting smaller group sizes and more distributed travel patterns rather than reduced demand
  • 61% of operators expect higher net profits in 2026, with projected gains driven by new customers, market expansion, and product diversification
